Plantronics Commands Dominance in Headset Market

Plantronics GameCom Commander

So let’s just start off saying that this is one hell of a headset. The Commander has a unique design and amazing specs that gives you an extra edge in communication. In the heat of an online match perfect communication is key for your team to successfully accomplish its mission. This headset definitely does the trick in being the master key to success. Now I only used it shortly while at QuakeCon 2012, but I was very impressed with the comfort and level of noise cancellation from the outside. You are completely immersed with whatever you are doing when this headset is on and as Plantronics believes, “the competitive edge for world-class gamers is focus.”

Imagine an intense match and it is down to a 1v1 battle and in the crowd a baby cries and your opponent has the GameCom Commander on and you don’t which causes you to take your attention off the game for a split second and that allowed for your opponent to get a headshot in causing a horrible death and humiliating loss. You definitely don’t want that to happen now do you? I’m not claiming it is perfect, but I had the headset on in the middle of the QuakeCon exhibition floor and all I could hear was the music I was listening to and it wasn’t even at max volume yet.

“Professional gamers have unique needs which make the performance of their equipment as important as the skills they possess. The GameCom Commander headset is one of the most important weapons in the gamer’s arsenal, engineered in the long-standing tradition of Plantronics headsets for astronauts, pilots, emergency workers, and others on the frontlines,”

-Tanguy Leborgne, vice president of consumer solutions at Plantronics

Oh and it is incredibly versatile as well. It can easily connect to a PC, mobile device, or tablet with breakaway cords making it the headset you’ll need for almost every situation. If you look at the image on the left you’ll notice the headset has a unique attachment that hooks into each set of connections. What is also important about that picture is that it shows the customized box for the headset. It is designed specifically for this headset and its attachments and for easy travel use between competitions and such. It will also come with a special limited edition laser-etched serial number and a customizable identity patch (on the bottom of the image) which is just velcro so it is easy to replace with something personal like your gaming alias or team name. I see a market for custom headband strips for the Commander!

Plantronics is a global leader in audio communications for businesses and consumers. We have pioneered new trends in audio technology for 50 years, creating innovative products that allow people to simply communicate.

Now you might be deciding whether or not this headset is for you or not. The design and specifications imply a professional gaming use. Not necessarily the MLG, but just doing tournaments and competitions. The noise cancellation features imply it to be used in a noisy environment and whether that be at a convention, competition, or wherever you will be covered. So basically this is a top of the line headset with tons of excellent features and good for any occasion, but really excels whenever you use it in a competition setting. This bad boy has a price point of $299 and is available for pre-order today! From the Plantronics Website or Amazon.com. Now if you plan on going to PAX Prime August 31 – September 2 in Seattle, Washington then you’ll be able to try the GameCom Commander out in person at the Plantronics booth #1232. This headset will also become the official headset at the Electronic Sport World Cup (ESWC) and those participating in the qualifier at PAX Prime will be using this headset during their matches. The ESWC has a total of 220,000 attendees with 1 million watchers on the site and 5 million streams.
