343 Industries along with Vanguard Games developed Halo: Spartan Assault and will be the first ever Halo game featured on a mobile platform. It won’t be like the previous installments of Halo, but will essentially be a top-down arcade style shooter. Where you’ll be in the middle of the fight with fellow Spartans and vehicles such as the Scorpion against the relentless Covenant forces. The storyline for the game takes place between Halo 3 and Halo 4 as you follow along the Spartans as part of the Spartan Ops program detailed in Halo 4, but on earlier missions that have yet to be explored and detailed. They plan on putting more information out there for you guys about the Human-Covenant War, so if you’re a Halo story buff then you’ll want to check this installment out.
“Halo: Spartan Assault provides an accessible, pick-up-and-play experience for fans and newcomers alike.”
You’ll get to play as either Commander Sarah Palmer, who is part of the Spartan-IV program and is a senior officer among their ranks, or Spartan Davis. Both are part of the UNSC Infinity and, as mentioned earlier, they will be exploring the first Spartan Ops missions against the Covenant forces. The game will have 25 unique missions, with possibly more to come via download later, with only a single-player experience except for a competitive scoreboard with your friends to see who is the top Spartan. There will also be the feature of Weekly Challenges which you’ll get to test yourself against certain objectives. You can get up to 40 achievements and medals in the game and as you play you’ll be able to earn XP, more achievements, and emblems for your personalized Spartan in Halo 4. There will be even more integration later on, but those details have yet to be announced. That isn’t all that is coming out though, Dark Horse Comics teamed up with Halo to bring you Halo: Initiation which is a 3-part comic book series that will detail the origins of Commander Sarah Palmer in the Spartan-IV ranks. Expect it out next month in July for just $6.99. However, only available on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 platforms.
