Ubisoft opens this year with Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains to show off a little bit of Rocksmith 2014 Edition. Dubbed as the “fastest way to learn guitar” you will be able to learn how to rock out like the pros and even play with a dynamic band in the newest entry. You can pick what instruments you want playing in your band and whenever you’re playing, the game will actually adapt to how you actually play it. So if you feel like taking it slow then the pace of the band will change with you. Making this a unique experience and a good opportunity for those who wish to learn guitar. Best of all you just use whatever guitar that you already own, nothing extra required. Check it out this October.
Splinter Cell: Blacklist will have you fighting an organization known as “The Engineers” and you’ll get to explore major areas such as Chicago, Philadelphia, and much more. The game will be dropping August 20th of this year. The other major Ubisoft franchise returning is Rayman Legends which will be bringing Rayman back to life September 3rd as you get to explore a variety of universes (seemingly related to other Ubisoft franchises) that will have the same fun co-operative platforming experience that we all know and love.
A new free-to-play PC game called Mighty Quest for Epic Loot was announced and will teach you how to thrive in a capitalist society by stealing from your neighbor and protecting your own loot. You build up a castle and fill it with traps and defenses to protect the loot you’ve gained. You can create your own hero and use them to attack your friends and once you get past their defenses their loot will be yours for the taking. Essentially this is a tower defense kind of game where you set up your defenses and your friends try to break through and you break through theirs. A perfect game for plenty of trash talking and bragging rights. Join the beta now at http://www.themightyquest.com. Also South Park: The Stick of Truth will teach us new fart moves to combat our enemies. Ubisoft wanted to assure us that this is the same South Park game, but just under a new Publisher due to the THQ closure. It is slated for a Holiday release on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
A brand new racing game that will be entering the market against Need For Speed is in the works. The Crew will be an all new online racer featuring fast paced car races and cop chases. Your car can become heavily modified to adapt to any situation. In fact it can be stripped down to the very frame and built back up with individual parts to really make this a custom racing experience. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a racer with this level of customization. The whole USA is your open world basically and as the story progresses you’ll be able to gather a group of friends to form a crew and take over a criminal organization one city at a time. You’ll be sharing and competing with friends all the time with the always connected game. You CAN play solo if you don’t want to be social online. However, it is encouraged to group up with friends and play together. During the game itself you may find yourself encountering other players on the roads as you are travelling through the game. The demo showcased a take-down mission where you and your crew would have to follow and take down the car by any means possible. This may require one team member to split off and try to cut him off at another street, or to ram him to the side so that the other team members can come up and ram him. This game looks amazing and fun and will be available on the PS4 and Xbox One in 2014.
Even though it’s going to be a AAA blockbuster, Watch Dogs had little presence at E3. Still enjoyed the new trailer showing off how little you’re actually safe if you’re a bad guy. Just Dance 2014 will be coming to every console this year. Current gen will be available in October, with the next gen coming out when they release. You’ll be able to do up to 6 player dances, a stage mode where you’ll have a lead dancer and some back up ones, and a dance dj (similar to Disney’s recently announced Fantasia game) which allows you to mix and switch songs as you dance to them. The Wii U version will still feature a choreography mode with the Wii U GamePad. Also a new Rabbids game called Rabbids Invasion is being released on the Xbox One and mobile devices along with getting it’s own TV show on Nickelodeon.
Of course one of Ubisoft’s flagship franchises makes an appearance with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. As Edward Kenway you’ll get to dual wield swords and explore underwater ship wrecks along with an ambitious open world. The trailer showed off how a ship battle will go down as you’ll be firing canons back and forth until you board them to take them all out. You’ll be able to explore the pirate world the way that you want this October. There was also a little section on two new Trials games such as Trials Fusion and Trials Frontier. Fusion is releasing for next gen consoles and will have more intense levels and a brand new trick system as you play in the sky. Frontiers will be available on mobile platforms and will be able to compliment one another.
Last year’s surprise was Watch Dogs and this year, Ubisoft brings us a brand new IP again with Tom Clancy’s The Division. It’ll be developed by Massive Entertainment, creators of Assassin’s Creed Revelations and Far Cry 3, and be an exciting open world RPG. The backstory is that during Black Friday, one of the busiest shopping days in America, a disease is spread due to the bacteria on money and since our society is so complicated and fragile it caused a chain of events to happen and collapse our society as we know it. The government however, has put in place a group of operatives for a national disaster such as this to restore order. The demo has you in New York just 3 weeks after the disaster and you and your team explore and look for ways to assist society. One really neat feature is that the World Map opens up on your feet and it has you placed exactly where you are in the map. You use the world map to find objectives and look at key points to explore. The demo progressed to show the team looking into a police station that was under attack. You can also scan the area for details about the environment. Also you have a skill tree that will allow you to select certain items and such to help with your objective. Communication is key in this new shooter as you’ll need to work cooperatively to successfully take down the enemy forces. If you’re having some trouble, a friend on his tablet can chime in and provide tactical support and even add buffs to your party. Expect it out on PS4 and Xbox One.
Ubisoft had the same host as last year and while she tried to provide comedy to the event, I feel as if she generally made things more awkward with things such as the #girlwood reference from last year. Ubisoft’s biggest titles coming out this year had little presence, but instead had a larger focus on some more of their more casual games such as Rabbids Invasion and Just Dance. However, when they showed off new IP it was amazing and they put time into discussing the details on it with games such as The Crew and The Division. Their game line up was broad and impressive and showed gamers what they want from a press conference, good detailed information about select games. Good job Ubisoft.
